About
Our story

Thama was born from both a personal journey and a clear need. I (pictured on the left) grew up in the Netherlands, but now call Nairobi home.

With a natural interest in fashion and a background in retail and marketing, I quickly noticed a gap in the Kenyan fashion scene. It was surprisingly hard to find high-quality womenswear that felt elegant, comfortable, and versatile enough for daily life in this dynamic and vibrant country.

I wanted pieces I could wear to a dinner night out, on a family trip to Kenya’s stunning coast, or while navigating Nairobi’s red-earth streets. Clothes that could carry me through all of it - without overthinking, without fuss. That realization became Thama.

The name comes from the Swahili word thamani, meaning “value” or “precious.” It represents the confidence that comes from wearing thoughtfully designed clothing and the importance of pieces that truly support you every day.

Thama creates high-quality, timeless womenswear locally crafted in Kenya that balances elegance, comfort, and simplicity. Our philosophy is simple. Our designs are made to stay, not to shout. Each piece is created to move with a woman’s own rhythm, making her feel beautiful, confident, and powerful - every single day.

Local production

Supporting local communities is a conscious choice: all fabrics are sourced locally, and all pieces and trims are produced in small Nairobi workshops where care and craftsmanship come first.

Our collections are made in a female-founded factory in Nairobi, established in 2022 by two Kenyan entrepreneurs who turned job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic into an opportunity. What began as a response to redundancy grew into a mission: to create employment, nurture local talent, and contribute to Kenya’s growing textile and fashion industry.
